About the Sunshine Project

camryn-06-250w.jpgThe Sunshine Project was established in 2010 by the New Bremen New Knoxville Rotary Club of Ohio, inspired by Camryn Nicole Murgatroyd from Blacklick, Ohio who lost her battle with special needs on May 8th, 2009 at the age of five.

Camryn was born with microcephaly which caused cerebral palsy and epilepsy.  Through years of pain and uncertainty Camryn never gave up on her fight.  She could not talk, walk, or see well, but she could smile, love, and inspire everyone who came into contact with her.   Her long dark hair, bright blue eyes, and huge smile touched the hearts of individuals from across the country.  As many children with special needs, Camryn spent several nights and weeks in the hospital for surgery and seizures.  Never once did she complain or give up instead she fought harder.  When you walk the halls of any children’s hospital you will find hundreds of children just like little Camryn who are fighting each and everyday for hope.  We honor all children with special needs and their families around the world.

Camryn is the niece of a New Bremen New Knoxville Rotarian, who was inspired daily by Camryn’s strength and love.  When Camryn passed her aunt promised that she would continue her fight for other children. That promise, and the fight of one little girl is how the Sunshine Project was developed.

This is your Sunshine Project to help parents, caregivers, families, and friends of children with special needs.  Our website has educational support, support group resources, and links to specialized hospitals for certain special needs.  If you are looking for a diagnosis that is not available please e-mail rotarysunshineproject@ymail.com and we will have your diagnosis added to the database.

We also have a spotlight child of the month that will introduce all of us to these amazing children and their stories while creating community awareness.  If you would like your child to be one of the spotlight children please contact us via the form below with your child’s story and a photo if you would like.

Lastly, the Sunshine Project has select pieces of medical equipment that has been donated for children in need.  Currently the equipment is only available for children of Auglaize and Mercer counties in Ohio.  We hope to add other counties and states to the equipment availability list soon.  If you are in need of medical equipment listed on the equipment link please complete the attached application.  All applications will be reviewed by the Sunshine Committee and distributed to the child with the greatest need.

The Sunshine Project runs 100% on monetary and equipment donations.  All donations stay with the project.  We are a 501(C)(3) and all donations are tax deductible.  If you would like to donate, please send donations to the address below.  If you have medical equipment for donation please e-mail rotarysunshineproject@ymail.com.
